wine characteristics

During the 1980s-90s, a winemaker in the Terre del Piave wanted to add, in the spring, to Raboso, produced in the previous autumn, a portion of wine made from the same carefully selected grapes and left to dry for a few months on trellises in properly ventilated environments. The wine obtained with the addition of the passito had gained body, structure and personality, losing its sometimes aggressive edginess to acquire roundness and elegance. Malanotte del Piave Docg is the ultimate expression of Raboso del Piave and its territory: an austere, full-bodied and very fragrant wine. Sight: ruby red color tending to garnet. Nose: wine with very elegant and complex aromas that give off hints of morello cherry and cherry. Reminiscent of cocoa and berries. The scents then also deepen spicy hints of pepper, licorice. Taste: intense, full-bodied wine with adequate acidity that brings to mind the typicality of the Raboso grape from which it is derived.

In classic red, 82 percent of the grapes are used, while the remaining 18 percent are dried on wooden crates for about 60 days. The blended wine rests for about 24 months in oak barrels and barriques; followed by aging for 6 months in bottles. MALANOTTE DOCG must be marketed after at least 36 months of aging starting on November 1 of the vintage year.

We recommend serving this wine at a temperature of about 16 to 18 degrees Celsius.

Something more

"The Barbarossa," an expression of a territory and a family.

This wine is dedicated to its author, Settimo, who is precisely portrayed on the label. Instinctive and outspoken, they converse sincerely aware that organic is the modern take on the centuries-old Veneto farming experience. Experience that, like wine, needs breath and time to reveal its strength. A strong spirit that of Settimo, a lover of the land that spawned it and from which is born a fruit rich in experience and time, Malanotte del Piave DOCG. "Il Barbarossa," a fictional name derived from the traditional red beard of the family men, is a wine that comes from the native vine of Raboso, which our family is particularly fond of, a symbol of tradition and peasant culture. Its grapes are hand-picked at the end of October and conclude the winery's harvest.
